Qatar
UPMC established a four-and-a-half-year partnership in 2006 with the Hamad Medical Corporation, which is the only health care corporation in the state of Qatar in the Middle East. The goal of this partnership is to bring top talent together to provide and ensure access to world-class emergency medical care to the citizens and residents of Qatar.
UPMC doctors, nurses, surgeons, and paramedics work side by side with their
counterparts in Qatar to provide emergency care at three hospitals that are part of Hamad Medical Corporation — Hamad General Hospital, Women’s Hospital, and Al Khor Hospital — and the Emergency Medical Services. UPMC clinicians also provide hands-on training in emergency medicine for staff at Hamad Medical Corporation.
Hamad General Hospital launched a trauma service in 2007 to treat patients with multisystem trauma, and has plans to establish the hospital as a Level 1 Trauma Center. This center would be the first of its kind in the region. The trauma service at Hamad General Hospital is one of the busiest in the world, with approximately 3,500 admissions each year.
